This featured image is of Ted Sprouse, a Korean War POW from Drakesville, Iowa. Ted was captured after a battle with Chinese Communist Forces and spent years in a North Korean prison camp. As you can see from this image Ted was also a baseball player. He played for the Indianhead artillery team DIVARITY and was invited to a recruit- training camp of the New York Giants. Accounts of Ted’s story can be found in the book “Limbo on the Yalu and beyond” by Robert J. Berns.
James B. Weaver was an officer in the Union Army during the Civil War. Weaver participated in the Battle of Shiloh, Second Battle of Corinth as well as the Battle of Resaca. Weaver attained the rank of Brevet Brigadier General, had n American Liberty ship named for him and served a US Representative. James Weaver resided in Bloomfield ,Iowa where you can still visit his home which was built in 1867.
